Meditation

Meditation is one of the most overused words in today's fact paced world. This is seen as a technique to alleviate stress and regain control on one's own mind. Everyone wants to face life with best possible energy. Clear and calm mind enables one to establish balance in thought process and action. This is why everyone including students, professionals, athletes, artists, homemakers, businessmen and numerous other people are embracing meditation now-a-days to enhance mental clarity.

Meditation becomes successful when one is able to connect with own inner mind. Some calls it soul, other calls it consciousness. Some sees the individual consciousness as the extension of the energy of the universe.

Meditation can be done in many different ways. Some relies on controlled breathing techniques. Some uses chanting as a means to meditate. Some people immerse themselves in the nature. Sometime back, I visited a bird sanctuary where I was allowed to use a telescope to watch birds performing daily activities across a lake. Birds of various shapes, colors and sizes were making nests, swimming in the lake, hunting fish, feeding their infants and few were simply flying around with their majestic colorful figures. Different species were living their lives in adjacent territories without any conflict. Watching this noisy yet tranquil scene seemed an immersive experience. Life seemed so busy yet simple for them. Satisfaction seemed an uncomplicated thing for them to achieve. Their beauty and innocence made me spellbound for quite a long time. I realized that I forgot to think about my daily worries for those many minutes! Yes, I can call those minutes as meditative moments.

In Vedas, Apta Vakya is cited as a source of knowledge that guides civilization. Apta means one whose thoughts, words and action are in harmony. Vakya means sentence. Meditation helps us to raise our capacity to walk on the path of an Apta. When our conscious self is in synchronization with our inner mind and we exhibit far-sighted intent through our words and actions, we achieve triumph on ourselves. Meditation is the technique that supports us to achieve this state of self which is then translated to the well-being of us and people around us.

  1. "Some people immerse themselves in the nature."- Preferably this is the best way of meditation. Taking a break from the busy and monotonous schedule in the search of the soul or inner consciousness.
